Traditional sausage Lanna Thai

Sai oua is a northern Thai sausage made from minced pork mixed with a variety of ingredients which makes it packed with flavour, and gives it a unique scent. It is usually made using sausage casing, however since they can often be hard to find, we have made this recipe simpler by forgoing the sausage casing, and grilling the meat directly, however you could use the casing if you prefer.

This is a great snack or meal, and once you have tried it, you wont want to settle for ordinary sausages again! Its actually simple to make, and once you have done all the prep work, its just a case of mixing everything together, and then grilling the sausages.

The best ChiangMai rice terraces.They’re among the must-sees for visits to MaeCheam district and also offer interesting insights into the local way of life. Rice paddies in Ban Pa Bong are part of the people’s heritage. The centuries-old traditional irrigation cooperative called Ban Pa Bong piang lives on through such artistry in nature.

Mae Chaem was created in 1908, consisting of the tambons Mae Thap, Tha Pha, Chang Khoeng, and Mae Suek split off from Chom Thong. In 1917 it was renamed Chang Khoeng, as the district office was in that tambon. In 1938 it was reduced to a minor district (king amphoe) and was subordinate to Chom Thong District. In 1939 it was renamed Mae Chaem. In 1956 it was upgraded to a full district.

In 2009 the northern part of the district was split off to form the new district, Galyani Vadhana.

Geography

Neighboring districts are Galyani Vadhana, Samoeng, Mae Wang, Chom Thong and Hot of Chiang Mai Province, and Mae Sariang, Mae La Noi, Khun Yuam, Mueang Mae Hong Son and Pai of Mae Hong Son Province.

Thailand's highest mountain, 2,565 meters (8,415 feet) high Doi Inthanon, in the Thanon Thong Chai Range, is in Mae Chaem District.

The district is divided into seven sub-districts (tambon), which are further subdivided into 85 villages (muban). Mae Chaem also has sub-district municipality (thesaban tambon) status and covers parts of tambon Chang Khoeng. There are a further seven tambon administrative organizations (TAO).
