Nakorn Panom Province THAILAND

Nakhon Phanom Province is one of the northeastern provinces of Thailand.

Wat Phra That Phanom is a temple in the That Phanom District in the southern part of Nakhon Phanom Province, northeastern Thailand. According to legend, the temple contains the Buddha's breast bone, and as such, it is one of the most important Theravada Buddhist structures in the region. It was originally built in the 16th century by the Laotian King Setthathirath of Lan Xang. Each year, a festival is held at That Phanom to honor the temple. The week-long festival attracts thousands of people who make pilgrimages to honor the shrine.

According to a Fine Arts Department marker on the site, it fell down in 1975, but was rebuilt with funds raised by public subscription, and from the government.

Wat That Renu is located near the Mekong river in the small town of Renu Nakhon, a little to the north of the border crossing bridge at Savannakhet. From Udon Thani it is a drive of 233km by taking the most direct route.

Wat Phra That Tha Uthen

พระธาตุท่าอุเทน ตั้งอยู่ภายในวัดพระธาตุท่าอุเทน อำเภอท่าอุเทน จังหวัดนครพนม องค์พระธาตุก่ออิฐถือปูนเป็นผังรูปสี่เหลี่ยมคล้ายพระธาตุพนม สร้างเป็น 3 ชั้น ชั้นแรกเป็นอุโมงค์บรรจุของมีค่าต่าง ๆ ชั้นที่ 2 สร้างครอบอุโมงค์ ชั้นที่ 3 คือเจดีย์องค์ใหญ่ สูงประมาณ 66 เมตร พระอาจารย์ศรีทัตถ์เป็นผู้สร้างเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2454 ใช้เวลาทั้งสิ้น 6 ปี จึงแล้วเสร็จในปี พ.ศ. 2459 เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2540 ส่วนซุ้มประตูชั้นล่างขององค์พระธาตุด้านทิศใต้ได้พังทลายลง กรมศิลปากรจึงได้ทำการบูรณะจนแล้วเสร็จ ในปี พ.ศ. 2541 พร้อมทั้งได้ทำการเสริมคานคอนกรีตภายในเพื่อป้องกันองค์พระธาตุพังทลาย วัดพระธาตุท่าอุเทน ได้รับการประกาศขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นโบราณสถานของชาติ และกำหนดขอบเขตโบราณสถานในราชกิจจานุเบกษา เล่มที่ 115 ตอนพิเศษ 4ง หน้า 2 ลงวันที่ 14 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2541 มีพื้นที่ประมาณ 2 ไร่ 2 งาน 89.48 ตารางวา พระธาตุนี้เป็นศิลปกรรมและปูชนียสถานอันสำคัญยิ่งองค์หนึ่ง บรรจุพระธาตุของพระอรหันต์ ซึ่งพระอาจารย์ศรีทัตถ์ได้อัญเชิญมาจากเมืองย่างกุ้ง จะมีงานนมัสการพระธาตุในวันขึ้น 13 ค่ำ ถึงแรม 1 ค่ำ เดือน 4 ของทุกปี พระธาตุองค์นี้มีสิ่งที่ตรงกับเทพประจำวันศุกร์ และเชื่อกันว่าผู้ที่เกิดวันนี้เป็นผู้ที่มีความคิดริเริ่มสร้างสรรค์ รักอิสระ รักสวยรักงาม คือพระธาตุหันไปทางทิศเหนือของพระธาตุพนม ตรงกับทิศประจำของพระศุกร์ ผู้ที่ไปนมัสการพระธาตุแห่งนี้จะได้รับอานิสงส์ให้ชีวิตมีความรุ่งโรจน์ เปรียบเสมือนพระอาทิตย์ขึ้นยามรุ่งอรุณ

By far the most romantic of Thailand’s celebrations, Loy Krathong takes place on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month. The Thai word 'Loy' means 'to float in Thai, while 'Krathong' is a small raft, about a hand span in diameter, made from a section of banana tree trunk – although today specially made bread 'flowers' or even Styrofoam are used. Thais decorate their Krathongs with elaborately-folded banana leaves, flowers, candles, and incense sticks.

The festival of Loy Krathong is celebrated throughout Thailand on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month, usually in late November. In Chiang Mai, it coincides with the Lanna festival of Yi Peng, making it one of the best places to experience this honouring of Buddha. Events in Chiang Mai take place over three days but preparations begin a week or so before; so if you’d like to experience this festival, it’s worth heading there early. Watch out for colourful lanterns being hung opposite the Three Kings monument and at many of the city’s wats.
